One of the best ways to market your business in 2009 and in the coming years beyond – at least 5 years into the future, will be online video.

Why Video?

Video marketing in the past was done by big companies with big budgets. That’s all changing. Video is available to the eager personal site webmaster as well as businesses on every level. It isn’t too difficult to make a video in a small room in your home and have it work well enough to put on your business site. Of course it’s MUCH better to shoot outside and to do as much as you possibly can to make it look professional, but the videos we have here on this site were produced in a couple days of retakes.

Creating business class marketing videos for online businesses is big business. Just call a company and get a quote on it. If you don’t have the few thousand dollars to spend on it you’ve gotta try it yourself. Look at it this way – you have an endless number of retakes to try again.

Here are 6 ideas online video production businesses don’t want you to figure out for yourself:1. Hosting video is easy now. There’s no need for special streaming video servers or anything more than the most basic Godaddy.com “economy” website for about $55 per year. Really, that’s all in the past. In fact, you probably won’t want to host the video on your site at all… Upload your online videos to YouTube, Vimeo, Blip.tv, or some other video hosting company with great servers, big bandwidth, and free for you to use.

2. You don’t need a 3-CCD chip video camcorder to shoot your online video. In fact, the video needs to be compressed so much that you won’t have life-like colors anyway. Almost all video color is washed-out because the millions of colors is what inflates the file size. All you really need is a good 640×480 video at 30 frames per second to shoot video for your business. Really, the majority of companies are using exactly that right now. Sure the bar will be raised, and it’s always changing. Right now that’s the bar. Just make that and get something up on your site. Go for perfection later – now, just get some video on your site!

3. Expert level video software is needed like Adobe Premiere, or Apple’s Final Cut Pro. Nope. In most cases you can use the simple Microsoft Movie Maker program that comes with Windows or the Quicktime movie editor that comes with all Macintosh computers.4. You need to convert your videos to many different file types to suit all users and the video viewing tools they have installed. False. In fact, if you just upload your video to YouTube then people that watch the videos there use the proprietary and built in YouTube viewer / player which will show the video regardless.

5. Marketing is expensive – and you need to pay us for it. Marketing videos is quite easy at the moment, upload your video to TubeMogul.com and send it to many video services at once. Pepper your video description, title, tags with keywords that describe your video and it will take care of itself. Optimization of your description of the video on these video hosting platforms is essetial, but it’s not that difficult. It’s in it’s infancy and there’s only so many things you CAN do with the options the companies give you. Read up on it a little bit and you’ll know all you can know in a day of effort.

6. It’s difficult to create your own business videos without a professional company helping you, editing for you, converting and posting your videos for you. It’s not that difficult.
